American Gold Eagles sell based on bullion prices. Today gold closed at $ 915. A coin dealer is going to discount that price so he will have a margin to work with when he tries to resell the coin. My guess would be somewhere between $ 800 and $ 850.

Michael Z January 21, 2012 at 8:34 pm: Gold Eagles sell at a slight premium to the spot price of gold. Certain coins may also have a greater value based on the date or grade, so be certain to check for some comparable items on ebay.

Kitco lists buy and sell prices for gold bullion (look on right hand column). This is a good general guide too.
