Question by Steve: Good deal on silver eagle coin set?
A local coin shop is offer a complete set of Gem (not graded but around ms65) american silver eagles, with all dates from 1986 - 2011. With tax the total price is $ 1092.00 ($ 42 each). I have coins from 2005 - 2011 but nothing prior to that.
Is this a good deal or should I try and buy them all seperately?

No, it's not a good deal. I can get you a set of 1986-2005 that are professionally graded at MS69, one grade below perfect, for $ 1,000. MS65 coins are no better than bullion coins, not worth any premium, in my opinion.

There is an add in Coin World for a set of eagles in what they say superb BU so I am figuring at least MS-65 or above for $ 1,015.95 and that is from 1986-2011. That being the case $ 1092 ia not to far off, for buying them from a Coin World advertiser you would have to pay postage. Also slabbed MS-69 coins can be had as was stated by some one else for reasonable amounts. I think it would depend on if you want they as a silver investment only or as a collectible. To resell as silver who cares about grades. To resell to the collecting community grades are important and add value. Buying them one at a time may be more expensive, but you can be picky and pick out the ones with the best luster and strike. Remember also not all slabbed and so-called professionally graded silver eagles in MS-69 or 70 coins are the same. One buys the coin, not the holder.
